Isekai has diverse meanings:
이Hither and thither, online & offline, reality & fantasy, restriction & freedom, humanistic & artificial, analogue & digital, civilization & savagery……
The festival offers participants and visitors a wide range of things to see, enjoy, think about and do weaving alienation and change amid the prolonged Covid pandemic and presenting the direction of ideas and evolution in the cartoon ecosystem.
The 25th Bucheon International Comics Festival will be held at 'Another Universe'.
The main character, named ‘Future’, of “The Antique Shop of the Future” by Gu A-Jin (Winner of the Grand Prize of the 2022 Bucheon Cartoon Contest),
is depicted holding a string into which the word ‘Isekai’, the theme of this year’s festival,
is inserted in both a forward and a reverse direction. The string represents communication and connection.
As we go through a global pandemic called ‘Isekai,’ the flow of the cartoon world where cartoons and cartoonists are separated but connected in a different method, we have attempted to present the blueprint of the Bucheon International Comics Festival, which aims to weave the ‘Isekai’ world which pursues cartoonish fantasies, as well as cartoon people’s diverse perspectives and values.
